Philando Castile was pulled over for a traffic stop by police Officer Jeronimo Yanez in Falcon Heights, Minnessota on July 16, 2016. Philando Castile's girlfriend and her 4-year-old daughter. Yanez asked for Castile's driver's license and insurance.
Philando Castile was legally carrying a gun and thus informed the police officer: "Sir, I do have to tell you I do have a firearm on me." Yanez replies: "Ok. Don't reach for it then." Castile says: "I'm not pulling it out."
Suddenly Yanez yells at Castile: "Don't pull it out! Don't pull it out!" And fires seven shots into Philando Castile.
Philando Castile was killed while complying with the police officer's command. Yanez recklessly fired into a car with a woman sitting on the passenger's seat and a 4-year-old girl sitting in the back of the car.
White police officer Yanez was not hold accountable for the killing of a Black man. He was found not guilty of Philando Castile's death and was acquitted of one count of second-degree manslaughter and two counts of intentional discharge of firearm that endangers safety.
