Lest We Forget

Jonathan Daniels1939-1965

Jonathan Daniels was a seminary student from Massachusetts, who in 1965 followed a call from Martin Luther King Jr. to support voting rights marchers in Selma, Alabama. Daniels was arrested by police during a march and spent nearly a week in jail. He was released on August 20 without explanation and murdered by Tom Coleman, a part-time deputy of Lowndes County.

An all-white jury found Coleman not guilty.
