On July 5, 2004, Anthony Nash, a 21-year-old resident of Leland, Mississippi was shot in front of a grocery store in Greenville, Mississippi. Based on statements from witnesses a warrant was issued and Darryl Morris was arrested on July 7, 2004. The State argued that the murder was the result between and ongoing family feud.
On July 21st, 2005, a Washington County Circuit Court jury found Morris guilty of the murder and Morris was sentenced to life in prison despite the fact that Daryl Morris had an alibi for the time when Nash was shot.
His lawyer argued in 2007 that the cumulative effect of all errors which occurred during the trial warrants a reversal of Daryl Morris' conviction. The appeal was rejected.
Daryl Morris maintains his innocence.
